Nick Boatman is the President/Chairman of the Board at Discovery Institute in Marlboro, NJ. Nick is a person in long-term recovery has been with Discovery since 2017. He has an extensive background in strategic turn-arounds and visionary leadership in diverse business modalities. With Nicks leadership over the years Discovery has implemented innovative evidence based clinical programming, expanded community outreach to a national level, launched several scholarship campaigns, and made access to treatment more accessible to the surrounding community. Nick is always striving to maintain engaged and compassionate team members who will ensure each client has the greatest opportunity at achieving success in long term recovery.

Dr. Joseph Ranieri D.O. earned his BS in Pharmacy at Temple University School of Pharmacy in 1981 and His Doctorate Degree in Osteopathic Medicine at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1991. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and a Diplomate of the American Board of Preventive Medicine Addiction Certification. He is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Practice and the American Society of Addiction Medicine. He has practiced in South Jersey since 1995. Starting in 2007, while practicing Family Medicine, he incorporated Addiction Treatment Modalities for his primary care patients. Dr. Ranieri has lectured extensively to physicians, nurses, counselors and laypeople about the Disease of Addiction throughout New Jersey and Pennsylvania since 2012.
He has continued to volunteer for a Christian Discipleship Recovery House since 2003 as well as being a Drug and Alcohol Monitor for the Professional Assistance Program (formerly PHP) of New Jersey since 1998. Additionally, he is a Clinical Associate Professor, Physician Assistant Program at PCOM.

About Darlene Grimes
Darlene has a versatile background in management and personal experience with Addiction. Darlene is currently completing her CADC courses to become a certified substance use disorder counselor. She has an extensive background in a variety of management positions. Darlene is driven by her own experience with addiction and strives to be the person that anyone can call to for help. Darlene is now the Admissions Director at Discovery and works tirelessly to ensure each client feels hopeful and loved. About John J. Conneely
John has been employed in the substance abuse treatment profession for the past 27 years. His experience has covered the treatment modalities of short-term residential, long-term residential, IOP and OP. John has provided treatment to both the adult and the adolescent populations. John started out as a counseling intern, obtained a CADC and then LCADC with his own caseload. John obtained a CCS and became a supervisor. John has been a director of substance abuse services at an outpatient treatment facility.
John’s initial employment in this profession was at Monmouth Chemical Dependency Treatment Center in Long Branch, NJ. MCDTC was unique as it provided residential, IOP and outpatient services to adolescents under one roof.
Throughout John’s career he has provided services for Ocean County Youth Detention Center, the Ocean County Correctional Institute and the Brick Township School system. John’s responsibilities at the correctional facilities were to conduct assessments and provide counseling services to the inmates. His responsibilities at the schools were to conduct assessments and to provide substance abuse counseling to students suspended for drug infractions.
When New Jersey initiated licensure for LCADC, John was a member of the first group awarded a license. John has also been afforded a Certified Clinical Supervisor after meeting the requirements for certification.
The above has provided John with the experience and knowledge required to provide quality and professional treatment services.

Cindy McIntire is a highly skilled and dedicated Registered Nurse, specializing in addictions. With nearly 20 years of nursing experience, Cindy’s background in critical care and trauma nursing provides a solid foundation for her work.
Over the past 12 years, Cindy has focused her expertise on addiction treatment and recovery as a board-certified addictions RN. She is recognized as a pioneer in the field, contributing to the development, teaching, and revision of protocols for detoxification in response to evolving substances of abuse.
Beyond her clinical practice, Cindy serves as a consultant and patient advocate, guiding individuals and families through the complexities of addiction treatment. Known for her compassionate and patient-centered approach, she is committed to providing exceptional care and support.

Nicole received her bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and worked her way over to addiction treatment. About Domenic Buonadonna
Domenic Buonadonna studied English and has a Bachelor of Arts as well as his CADC. He is currently enrolled in a graduate program at Capella University for Clinical Mental Health pursuing an LPC and LCADC. He has been with Discovery as a Primary Counselor since 2020 and has worked in substance use treatment for seven years in both residential and outpatient facilities. He has also worked as a legal liaison which gives him expertise working with clients on drug court, probation, or with open legal matters. His counseling style is person centered. He commonly incorporates motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral techniques, and reality therapy during group and individual session. He also emphasizes motivational strategies.

Hi my name is Anthony Lanni, I have my bachelor’s in business administration but decided 4 years ago my true calling was to be an addiction counselor. I completed my courses at Ocean County College and interned at Healy Counseling in Toms river for 3 years where I completed all of my hours. I start courses for my master’s in addiction studies in January. I enjoy recording music and released my first album in April. I also own a barbershop/salon. I have an amazing wife Kim, who is very supportive. I am excited for the future and am proud to have a hand in helping people change their lives.

Kyle is a primary counselor at Discovery Institute. Kyle has worked in several different capacities at Discovery. Kyle attended courses provided by NJPN and obtained his CADC.

About Christine Budnick
Christine has been a counselor with Discovery Institute since 2003. During that time, she has been part of the Extended Stay residential program, as well as the ACT, short term residential program. She has facilitated outpatient and intensive outpatient groups within the facility as well. In the past, she served as the coordinator of the Family Education Program and conducted lectures for clients’ families on topics such as setting boundaries and understanding addiction. Prior to joining the Discovery team, she was a counselor at Bridges Day Treatment Program, a partial care program for mentally ill and co-occurring clients. She has also provided services to Jersey Shore Addiction Services as an outpatient counselor and was on the ground floor of the development of the intensive outpatient program. Her caseload included IDRC, (drunk drivers) clients as well as women’s IOP groups. Christine has experience providing treatment to addicts, co-occurring patients, patients with psychotic disorders, victims of domestic violence, and sexual abuse survivors. Christine has a bachelor’s degree in sociology and received her CADC in 2003.

Danny Castellano is a client care advocate and CADC intern at Discovery Institute. Danny began his journey in the field of addictions recovery as a behavioral health technician for Discovery in March of 2020 before being promoted to his current position in February 2021. Danny is currently in his final semester of Hudson County Community College’s human services/addictions counseling Associates degree program. After completing the Associates degree, he will be pursuing a bachelors in the same major. Danny’s primary motivation comes from his personal experience with addiction and recovery. He believes the path to recovery is through the implementation of evidence-based treatment, empathy, and unconditional positive regard.

Christopher Dunkak studied psychology and received his bachelor’s degree from Richard Stockton University. He then earned his master’s degree in counseling from Monmouth University. Jennifer is a licensed clinical alcohol and drug counselor with a master’s degree in Addictions. Elizabeth Davies received her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from The University of Delaware and is now a Primary Counselor here at Discovery Institute. Sara obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Communications, minoring in Sociology and Public Relations from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 2012. She recently received her Drug and Alcohol Counselor education from New Jersey Prevention Network. Sara is currently working on finishing her intern hours working as a STS counselor here at Discovery. Prior to her working as a counselor with us she started as a behavioral health technician which fueled her passion for helping others even more. Sara is also working on her master’s in social work from Rutgers University. Sara always has her clients focus on obtaining small attainable goals, working a program of recovery by introducing twelve step principles and work on their routine so that they can continue that moving forward. She also encourages them to do service in the community if they are willing. Her favorite therapies to use are client centered, motivational interviewing along with CBT and DBT . She loves seeing her clients grow and evolve while they are here and become the person they have always wanted to be.

Catherine holds a CADC from Ocean County College, AOS Degree from Tobe-Coburn in Manhattan and is certified as an International Co-Occurring Gambling Disorder Specialist. Catherine joined Discovery Institutes Treatment Team after working as a as a Primary Counselor at Advanced Health and Education and New Hope Integrated Behavioral Healthcare in the withdrawal management unit.

Sam Russell is the Regional Director of Community Outreach at Discovery Institute. She has been with Discovery since November 2017, beginning as a medical assistant in the detox unit. Sam later transitioned to a behavioral health technician while pursuing her CADC, where she gained clinical experience running groups and lectures. Over the past four years, she played a key role in building the alumni department before moving into her current business development role. Sam is deeply committed to ensuring clients are the top priority, driven by her personal passion for helping those struggling with mental health and substance use disorders. Cindy McIntire is a highly skilled and dedicated Registered Nurse, specializing in addictions. With nearly 20 years of nursing experience, Cindy’s background in critical care and trauma nursing provides a solid foundation for her work.
Over the past 12 years, Cindy has focused her expertise on addiction treatment and recovery as a board-certified addictions RN. She is recognized as a pioneer in the field, contributing to the development, teaching, and revision of protocols for detoxification in response to evolving substances of abuse.
Beyond her clinical practice, Cindy serves as a consultant and patient advocate, guiding individuals and families through the complexities of addiction treatment. Known for her compassionate and patient-centered approach, she is committed to providing exceptional care and support.

About Nicole Kemprowski
Nicole received her bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and worked her way over to addiction treatment. She began her career in the treatment industry as a behavioral health technician and is now a CADC, MSW/LSW and LCADC. She has a passion to help individuals by using motivational interviewing and CBT skills to help guide them in their process and journey to rebuild their lives.

About Domenic Buonadonna
Domenic Buonadonna studied English and has a Bachelor of Arts as well as his CADC. He is currently enrolled in a graduate program at Capella University for Clinical Mental Health pursuing an LPC and LCADC. He has been with Discovery as a Primary Counselor since 2020 and has worked in substance use treatment for seven years in both residential and outpatient facilities. He has also worked as a legal liaison which gives him expertise working with clients on drug court, probation, or with open legal matters. His counseling style is person centered. He commonly incorporates motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral techniques, and reality therapy during group and individual session. He also emphasizes motivational strategies.

About Anthony Lanni
Hi my name is Anthony Lanni, I have my bachelor’s in business administration but decided 4 years ago my true calling was to be an addiction counselor. I completed my courses at Ocean County College and interned at Healy Counseling in Toms river for 3 years where I completed all of my hours. I start courses for my master’s in addiction studies in January. I enjoy recording music and released my first album in April. I also own a barbershop/salon. I have an amazing wife Kim, who is very supportive. I am excited for the future and am proud to have a hand in helping people change their lives.

About Christine Budnick
Christine has been a counselor with Discovery Institute since 2003. During that time, she has been part of the Extended Stay residential program, as well as the ACT, short term residential program. She has facilitated outpatient and intensive outpatient groups within the facility as well. In the past, she served as the coordinator of the Family Education Program and conducted lectures for clients’ families on topics such as setting boundaries and understanding addiction. Prior to joining the Discovery team, she was a counselor at Bridges Day Treatment Program, a partial care program for mentally ill and co-occurring clients. She has also provided services to Jersey Shore Addiction Services as an outpatient counselor and was on the ground floor of the development of the intensive outpatient program. Her caseload included IDRC, (drunk drivers) clients as well as women’s IOP groups. Christine has experience providing treatment to addicts, co-occurring patients, patients with psychotic disorders, victims of domestic violence, and sexual abuse survivors. Christine has a bachelor’s degree in sociology and received her CADC in 2003.

I am a compassionate individual that utilizes professional experience, personal experience, and passion to help others suffering from addiction. I started at Discovery assisting the Detox Counselor with running groups and ensuring they had everything they needed while in our care. I have success with preventing clients from leaving against medical advice by connecting with them and empowering them to keep going. I now assist clients and their families by securing sober living homes and aftercare. I believe it is vital to be consistent with your treatment plan in order to achieve long term recovery.

Danny Castellano is a client care advocate and CADC intern at Discovery Institute. Danny began his journey in the field of addictions recovery as a behavioral health technician for Discovery in March of 2020 before being promoted to his current position in February 2021. Danny is currently in his final semester of Hudson County Community College’s human services/addictions counseling Associates degree program. After completing the Associates degree, he will be pursuing a bachelors in the same major. Danny’s primary motivation comes from his personal experience with addiction and recovery. He believes the path to recovery is through the implementation of evidence-based treatment, empathy, and unconditional positive regard.

Christopher Dunkak studied psychology and received his bachelor’s degree from Richard Stockton University. He then earned his master’s degree in counseling from Monmouth University. He has extensive experience with individuals with substance use disorders in agencies, hospitals, and clinic settings. Chris is highly passionate about being part of his client’s journey in recovery and helping them achieve sobriety. About Jennifer Barr Whaley
Jennifer is a licensed clinical alcohol and drug counselor with a master’s degree in Addictions. She holds certifications in behavioral health from NJ Department of Children and Families and NJ Department of Education. Additional certifications include as a Monmouth County court appointed special advocate, life coach, and sports official. Jennifer is trained in Cognitive Processing Therapy for trauma and teaching mindfulness. She uses a trauma-informed, strength-based, person-centered approach to treatment.

Elizabeth Davies received her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from The University of Delaware and is now a Primary Counselor here at Discovery Institute. Elizabeth has gained experience working in the addiction field throughout her 8-year career. Her favorite thing to do at work is help clients navigate through the difficulties of repairing damage caused by their participation with their addiction. About Sara O’Neill
Sara obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Communications, minoring in Sociology and Public Relations from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 2012. She recently received her Drug and Alcohol Counselor education from New Jersey Prevention Network. Sara is currently working on finishing her intern hours working as a STS counselor here at Discovery. Prior to her working as a counselor with us she started as a behavioral health technician which fueled her passion for helping others even more. Sara is also working on her master’s in social work from Rutgers University. Sara always has her clients focus on obtaining small attainable goals, working a program of recovery by introducing twelve step principles and work on their routine so that they can continue that moving forward. She also encourages them to do service in the community if they are willing. Her favorite therapies to use are client centered, motivational interviewing along with CBT and DBT . She loves seeing her clients grow and evolve while they are here and become the person they have always wanted to be.

Catherine holds a CADC from Ocean County College, AOS Degree from Tobe-Coburn in Manhattan and is certified as an International Co-Occurring Gambling Disorder Specialist. Catherine joined Discovery Institutes Treatment Team after working as a as a Primary Counselor at Advanced Health and Education and New Hope Integrated Behavioral Healthcare in the withdrawal management unit.

About Sam Russell
Sam Russell is the Regional Director of Community Outreach at Discovery Institute. She has been with Discovery since November 2017, beginning as a medical assistant in the detox unit. Sam later transitioned to a behavioral health technician while pursuing her CADC, where she gained clinical experience running groups and lectures. Over the past four years, she played a key role in building the alumni department before moving into her current business development role. Sam is deeply committed to ensuring clients are the top priority, driven by her personal passion for helping those struggling with mental health and substance use disorders. In her spare time, she enjoys the beach and being an aunt.

Dr. Joseph Ranieri D.O. earned his BS in Pharmacy at Temple University School of Pharmacy in 1981 and His Doctorate Degree in Osteopathic Medicine at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1991. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and a Diplomate of the American Board of Preventive Medicine Addiction Certification. Dr. Ranieri has lectured extensively to physicians, nurses, counselors and laypeople about the Disease of Addiction throughout New Jersey and Pennsylvania since 2012.
